There’s an LS-powered helicopter.

Liking the LS is one thing
Trusting your life to the LS is quite another thing

I agree... but I’m pretty sure that the LS sounds better than the lycomings 6 cyl

The other optional engine is the Lycoming 0-435, which weighs around the same as the LS7

T he biggest concern with using an automotive engine in an aircraft is a lack of redundancy. An aircraft engine is built with two magnetos running two independent ignition systems which power one of each pair of spark plugs in each cylinder. If you lose one magneto, you only lose one spark plug per cylinder and the engine keeps running. The magneto system is completely independent of the electrical system, so if the alternator dies mid-flight, only the instruments go offline. The engine keeps running.

You’d be surprised how good a flat 6 Lycoming or Continental can sound.
But it will be drowned out by the noise of the blades anyway.

It was downrated to 300-ish hp despite being an LS7, maybe they added the requisite safety features?

Looks like it has a single coil-pack per cylinder, so my guess is no.

Huh, who would’ve thought general aviation is a gamble?
